-
Energy-saving: uses approximately 14.7 kilowatt hours of electricity if run continuously from 1 May to 30 September.
-
Average U.S. electricity cost of 12 cents per kilowatt hour, total cost to run for the entire mosquito season is less than 2 dollars
-
Safe – UL approved, water tight cable connections
-
High capture rates
Biogents suggests using CO2 from 20 lb (10kg) sized bottles which are commonly used in bars and resturants. These bottles can last from 3 to 7 weeks depending on the flow rate used.
Placement of traps can diminish the local mosquito population when:
-
Correctly positioned
-
Continuously operated (24 hours a day throughout the mosquito season)
-
Operation begins early in the season
Areas that can be protected by traps include:
-
Backyards and gardens
-
Outdoor cafes and restaurants
-
Hotel/Motel outdoor areas
-
Campgrounds
-
Public Parks
-
Outdoor sports and recreation areas
-
Anywhere groups of people gather
A single fan sucks the attracted mosquitoes into a catch bag below the black suction column of the trap. The air stream is then diverted and exits the trap through the white upper surface made of plastic. This air stream mimics the typical scent plume that is produced by a warm human body. To the mosquitoes the trap looks just like a human being.
The contrast between the dark center and the light surface of the trap is an additional important attractive signal for the mosquitoes, and completes the capture method.
A scent dispenser inside the trap enriches the air stream with small amounts of substances similar to those produced by the human skin. These substances act as synergists to enhance the attractiveness of the traps.
Carbon dioxide in the form of bottled gas, can be added to the air stream in order to increase the variety of species collected, and maximize the capture rate. Typically, the level of CO2 released corresponds to the amount exhaled by a young child. CO2 is an important attractant for all host seeking mosquitoes. BG-Sweetscent lure and CO2 work together as synergists and can help you to maximize the capture rate of your trap. Using CO2 can also increase your tiger mosquito collections.
Trap Placement:
-
Traps should be used outdoors
-
Traps should be placed in shady, wind-protected and humid places, near resting sites of mosquitoes
-
Continuously operate the trap (24 hours a day for the entire mosquito season)
-
Begin operating the trap early in the mosquito season
For all mosquito species and an increased catch result with Tiger mosquitoes.
This sturdy Biogents Mosquitare CO2 Mosquito Trap includes CO2 attachment and is designed to be placed in your garden or backyard. The mosquito trap should be placed near mosquito resting areas such as shrubs and dense vegetation and away from decks and patios. This way, the trap will catch the mosquitoes before they reach the patio and you.
The BG-Mosquitare with BG-Sweetscent lure is very effective in collecting the tiger mosquito (
Aedes albopictus) and the dengue or yellow fever mosquito (
Aedes aegypti).
Carbon dioxide (CO
2) is a scientifically proven attractant that is routinely used by mosquito control professionals to enhance their mosquito surveillance efforts. So by adding CO
2 as a supplemental attractant you can increase the variety of species and total number of mosquitoes that will be collected by the trap. In other words: Using CO
2 allows you to target certain pest species (floodwater mosquitoes) that would otherwise be under-represented in your trap catch.
Placement is very important for success. Electricity is required and you may need an extension cord depending on the distance from a 110v electric outlet. To maximize the effectiveness of the trap, it is important to also remove any water holding containers in the yard that could potentially support the development of mosquito larvae.
20 lb CO2 bottle lasts 3 to 7 weeks depending on the flow rate used.
You must supply your own CO2 Bottle.
